TIPS ON FUNDRAISERS
GOURMET CANDLE FUNDRAISERS ARE PROFITABLE!

The truth is, some people just hate to be bothered for money. This is unfortunate for your organization, but an excellent fundraising idea is a healthy fundraiser, since many of the current fundraisers deal with candy and treats that aren’t always good for kids and parents alike. Try our gourmet candles fundraiser, it's one that customers can donate to with a good conscience!

A gourmet candle fundraiser is a great way to raise money for your school, sports team or other type organization. What's also nice about them is that they are a very sociable way to earn money for a good cause because you're out there meeting the community. For younger participants, fundraisers can even be an early lesson in sales and marketing.

Gourmet candles are very easy to sell because of their popularity and they are a much better choice than food or over-priced novelty items that tend to generate lower profits. They are a rapidly growing option that is more appealing to the public because they are an alternative to fund raisers that only offer food or trinkets.

Gourmet candle fund raisers can also be very lucrative because they come in so many different varieties of size, color and scents creating a great earning potential. For school fundraisers such as band, cheerleaders or sports teams, you can earn funds by selling gourmet candles in your school's colors!

For any type of organization, especially religious congregations, think about holiday-themed candles for those times of the year. We offer over 95 scents, so there are sure to be scents related towards the theme.

If your group has decided to embark on a candle fund raiser, a plan of action is a very important step for reaching your fund raising goal. You should start by determining the amount of money you want to raise and how many people are willing to take part in it. Next, you should decide when to start the fundraiser and on what date to end it. Then you can determine at what price you will be selling the candles and how many each person needs to sell in order to reach your goal. Be sure to let everyone involved know what the expectations are and encourage them to use their best selling skills. Also, if you're using brochures to sell the candles, you'll want to supply your sellers with everything they'll need to make meeting your fund raising objective as organized and easy as possible. Give them plenty of order forms and make them aware of shipping and delivery time periods so that they can let their customers know when to expect their items. Basket of Candles will supply the forms you will need. By following a few guidelines and setting a fair, but profitable pricing structure, your organization will be well on its way to reaching its fund raising target!

BAND FUNDRAISERS

Music is magic, but if you have a kid in the band at school you also know that it’s expensive! And that’s a fact. Sure music fills our hearts and our ears with joy, but it also empties the wallets of many a parent for new musical instruments—which don’t come cheap.

So what do you do as a thoughtful parent if your little Jimmy or Susie wants to play the tuba, but you don’t have the cash? You turn to school band fundraisers, that’s what!

School band fundraisers help kids add a little music to the lives of the school. The band, after all, makes many special moments unforgettable like in half-time shows and pep rallies! However, school bands, more than any other school team, require the most funds. Not only do school band members need to pay for band trips, they also need to pay for uniforms, maintenance of musical instruments, new musical instruments, music lessons, and sheet music and band activities. Unfortunately most school band programs are not well funded enough to handle all of these requirements.

So where does that leave the music in your school?

If your child is in a school band, they probably hold fundraisers on a regular basis to incur all of the demanding costs. If you are a concerned parent or a responsible teacher that is helping to come up with fundraising initiatives for your band, we have come up with a unique fundraiser.

The most important thing to remember with band fundraising projects is to come up with fundraisers that maximize profit and minimize effort. The more band members can do without having to purchase a lot of materials to hold a fundraiser, the more profit they should expect to come in for the most important thing—their music! And our gourmet fundraising program fits that description!

Basketball Fundraisers

Although they’re not always as popular as the football team or cheerleaders, the basketball team still puts on a great show and deserves just as much help as any other team. Basketball fundraisers are ways to raise the funds to keep the team on its successful streak. The funds pay for uniforms, balls, and travel to visitor games.

Because basketball games are generally well-attended (because they’re inside in a nice warm gym!), you can be sure to get a lot of people at your fundraising event. You’ll already have your supporters – the trick is to draw in random fans who may not always attend the games.

To do this, you’ve got to have some pretty fun fundraising ideas – luckily, it’s not hard to get people excited about sports! You should start by having a team meeting and deciding what you want to do. If you ask the players, chances are they’ll have some good ideas about what they want to do to draw in the community. Set up a game and have your gourmet candle list at the door so that when people pay their way in, they will be paying for their candle at the same time! They won't mind paying $20.00 if they know they are getting a product AND a great game to boot!

CHEERLEADER FUNDRAISERS

Cheerleaders are the lifeblood of a sports team, providing pep, excitement, and team spirit to any game. Without them to put on a wonderful show, the crowd wouldn’t get as excited and the players may not do their absolute best. Plus, who can resist those pretty girls smiling and performing their acrobatics?

What everyone forgets, however, is that although the sports teams need funds to pay for all of their equipment, the cheerleaders also need money to keep the squad going.

It can be tough for the school to find the money for uniforms, coaches, and travel expenses when they go to visitor games. Sometimes, cheerleaders are so good that they get to perform in competitions with their peers, but it costs money to pay for the transportation, the costumes, the food and the hotel stays, if the competition is not in the area. It’s unfair to ask these hard-working girls to pay for everything themselves – they deserve someone working on their behalf to raise money, too!

What kind of fundraiser can the squad do themselves? Well, you could do a brochure sale with our gourmet products or just sell the gourmet jar candles. Cheerleaders are resourceful people – they can come up with a lot of great ideas. They also may have a lot of contacts, so your fundraiser will likely see a good turnout. Lastly, don’t forget about the kids that tried out for the squad, but didn’t get on it. They can form a cheerleader booster club that can be in charge of staffing fundraising booths and raising money for the team. Get away from selling expensive product that people may already be tired of and sell something that is in 8 out of 10 homes!

CHRISTIAN FUNDRAISERS

Besides getting direct donations for funds, a Christian organization can host an easy and profitable fundraiser with our gourmet jar candles!

If you do host a Christian-based fundraiser, you don’t want to be too heavy-handed with the religious platitudes. You will lose your fundraising potential before you even begin if people think they are going to be given a sermon instead of a product. Instead, tell people what the end result will be from the fundraiser. How it's going to benefit your organization, like you'll be sending people to remote places to help natives of that country to better themselves or that you'll be able to provide a youth center for your youth. Whatever you are raising the funds for.

Make scripture cards to tie around the tops of the jar candles before you deliver them! Or include one in the bag with their purchase as a thank you note.

Christian-based fundraisers don’t have to stay in the Christian community, or only deal with members of churches. When they are open to everyone, you will find that non-religious people may actually be interested in your cause.

CHURCH FUNDRAISERS

If any organization can fundraise, it’s a church! A lot of people have a hard time saying no to giving to God, and that’s great for the upkeep and general expenses that a church has. Churches run almost solely on donations, and many require their members to give if they can, every Sunday, without fail. However, this sometimes isn’t enough to fix the leaky roof or to install a new stained-glass window. Here’s where church fundraisers come into play – they generate the extra funds to ensure that the church stays a house of God and not a broken-down shack.

One of the biggest problems that a church has is that people do give every Sunday and they don’t see why they should have to give more. What a priest or minister has to do is convince the parishioners of the need for more funds beyond what they already give.

The tithes pay for things like the minister’s salary, the church mortgage, utilities and the general maintenance of the church. You need to make this distinction clear or you are going to have a lot of people wondering why they should have to give more than the Biblical "ten percent". Parishioners will normally give to charitable missions or to provide scholarships for the youth in the church – most are very generous people that want to make a difference in a less-fortunate person’s work.

However, you may find that you have less appeal when it comes to more secular things like a new vestry carpet or choir stall repair. You must be able to convince them that these things are just as important to the running of the church as providing for the less fortunate is. Explain to them the purpose and timeline of your gourmet candle fundraiser, and what they can get in return, whether it’s the satisfaction of donating or the knowledge that they’ve helped someone, especially in a charitable sense.

COLLEGE STUDENT/GROUP FUNDRAISERS

With college students you have several advantages. An active existing college community and groups such as sororities and fraternities means there are many resources available and existing relationships with possible sponsors and partners. You often have access to a bit more of an initial investment, along with a really big group to work with who can do most of the planning and set-up.

Sales can really be unique for the college crowd, given a little more leeway on what participants can do. Having more resources available such as art departments and school papers means easier advertising to a wide audience along with the chance to use some fun ideas.

Avoid the obvious, mundane fundraising activities that everyone has done time and time again. College students offer more opportunities to do something exciting, and will be more motivated by egg drops or head shaves then selling candy bars. Gaining participation will be easier when people aren’t rolling their eyes at yet another car wash.

Put the fun back in your fundraiser with our profitable gourmet candle fundraiser!

DAYCARE FUNDRAISERS

A lot of parents would love to stay home with their children, but it’s not always an option, so thank goodness for daycares and the staff that run them! They perform an essential service and excellent child care, but unfortunately, they’re often underfunded. Most daycares do operate on a for-profit level, but they may charge lower prices to attract busy working parents, and then have to make up the difference somehow.

However, daycares still have to pay for their facility, supplies, food, and toys for the children and wages for their employees. That can be tough when they stand to lose customers if their prices get too high, or take a loss because they can’t take as many children. Many daycares choose to supplement their income by fundraising, which does help them out. Parents are often willing to help out with this, but the facility can have a problem attracting the notice of the broader community.

Unfortunately, when people don’t have children, they’re not always concerned with helping out their local daycare, and many don’t see the point of donating to something that they won’t use. However, that doesn’t mean that daycares can’t raise money in their community – they certainly can, and they may even get a little publicity, too. With our gourmet candle fundraiser, you'll be helping your community by providing a product that is both useful and relaxing.

PRESCHOOL FUNDRAISERS

Preschools perform a helpful task in the community – they prepare young children for the rigors of school and provide short-term daycare for said children. However, to people who don’t have kids, a plea from a preschool for donations is not going to be high on their list of priorities, and to preschools that run solely on private funds, that can mean the difference between certain activities for the children or paying the building’s rent. Fundraisers help to support the preschools so that they can take more children and still provide quality schooling and excellent care.

A preschool’s main fundraising problem is trying to attract community members who don’t utilize their services. If the school is part of a church, it may find that appeals to church members will work, even if said members don’t have kids. Also, parents who already pay tuition may feel that giving more to the school’s direct appeal is asking for a little too much, so the best thing to do is to find fundraisers that appeal to the community.

Although preschoolers are young, they can be involved in our gourmet candle fundraiser. Making your fundraiser a teaching opportunity is a great way to involve the children – for example, helping to teach them about the many colors of our candles, counting them, and even learning how to use adjectives by describing the many scents we have to offer!

Preschools, like daycares, do have it tough when trying to raise money and get the attention of the community. However, with a little effort, you can interest people in your cause. Many people, young and old, once used a preschool, either as a student or for their kids, and some will use it in the future. Even getting your name out there could mean publicity in the form of word-of-mouth advertising for other parents who are looking for a good educational experience for their children.
